Social media has changed the game. It’s no longer just a place to connect—it’s where people learn, research, and make decisions. That includes financial decisions. Whether you realize it or not, your prospects are checking you out online before they ever reach out. 

 This matters because social media plays three major roles for your firm: 

 Prospect Validation – When someone hears about you, they’ll search for you online. A strong presence builds trust before the first conversation. 

 Client Touchpoint – Your clients are on these platforms. Staying visible between meetings keeps your relationship top of mind. 

 Network Growth – Social media connects you to your clients’ and COIs’ networks—people who could be your next best clients. 

 The good news? You don’t need to be everywhere or chase every trend. Focus only on platforms where your best clients already spend time. Ask them where they are active—LinkedIn is great for credibility, while Instagram and Facebook are more personal. TikTok connects by interest rather than relationships. 

 Instead of stressing over a social media strategy, think of it as a distribution tool. Create valuable content for your top clients, then share it where they’ll see it. And don’t just post—engage. For every post you make, comment meaningfully on three others. When someone reaches out about your content, start a real conversation rather than just saying “thanks.” 

 Smart advisors don’t see social media as a standalone lead generator, but as one piece of a bigger client journey. Used well, it keeps you relevant, builds trust, and strengthens relationships—all without feeling like a chore.
