Client reviews have quickly become one of the most effective marketing tools available to financial advisors. Since the SEC's 2023 rule change allowed testimonials, endorsements, and ratings, advisors now have a new and compliant way to showcase the trust they've earned. While some firms were hesitant at first, many are starting to recognize the value of social proof in both credibility and visibility. 

Today’s prospects are doing more research than ever. Even when they’re referred by someone they trust, they still go online to learn more. They visit your website, explore your social media, and read what others have said about working with you. As Rishi Bharathan, CEO of WiserAdvisor, explains, one of the first questions on a prospect’s mind is simple: can I trust this advisor? 

Client reviews also have a measurable impact on search performance. Google increasingly rewards user-generated content because it reflects genuine client experiences. Firms with even a few high-quality reviews often rank better than competitors who have none. As Bharathan puts it, when clients speak in their own words, Google pays attention. 

If you’re concerned about negative feedback, keep in mind that a handful of mixed reviews can actually build credibility. A perfect five-star score with no variation may seem too good to be true. Start small by reaching out to a few loyal clients and make it easy for them to share their thoughts. Some firms tie the request to a charitable cause, which can align the ask with their values. Most importantly, treat reviews as a long-term strategy. Building a steady stream of authentic feedback can strengthen both your reputation and your visibility over time.
